New employees and induction

We have partnered with the Health & Safety Group to deliver our core training pathway. To ensure safe, high-quality, and compassionate care, every new starter completes this pathway: Health & Safety Group training day(s) and our Corporate Induction day, followed by a short suite of mandatory eLearning modules

Day 1: Face-to-Face (Health & Safety Group)

A full, practical day covering the Clinical & Safety Skills Framework (CSTF):

Basic Life Support

  • Adults (Level 2): CPR & defibrillation, airway management, anaphylaxis, DRAB, Chain of Survival, NEWS2, ABCDE, in-hospital resuscitation, post-resuscitation care, DNAR, effective handovers and communication.
  • Babies & Children (Level 2): Paediatric CPR & defibrillation, signs of deterioration, choking, ABCDE, immediate post-arrest care, blood glucose & fluids, recognising newborn deterioration, supporting respirations, parental presence, common complications.

Infection Prevention & Control (Levels 1 & 2)

  • Chain of infection, alert organisms, sepsis, PPE, sharps, COSHH, waste, cleaning & decontamination, RIDDOR, risk assessments, fitness to work.

Moving & Handling (Levels 1 & 2)

  • Biomechanics and ergonomics, risk assessment (LITE), people-handling equipment and mechanical aids, safe techniques, controversial techniques to avoid.

Safeguarding

  • Adults (Levels 1 & 2): CQC standards, abuse types, MCA & DoLS, Mental Health Act overview, learning disability & autism awareness, information sharing, multi-agency working, whistleblowing.
  • Children (Levels 1 & 2): Child-centred care, significant harm, disclosure, referrals and Early Help, MDT working, police & social care roles.

Conflict Resolution & Breakaway (NHS)

  • Conflict stages, recognising aggression, de-escalation and diversion, lone working, responding to violence, roles and responsibilities, breakaway theory & demonstrations.

Equality, Diversity & Human Rights

  • Equality Act, protected characteristics, dignity & respect, whistleblowing.

Fire Safety

  • Causes and prevention, alarms and detectors, evacuation (including patient evacuation), fire triangle, extinguishers, smoke and fumes.

Health, Safety & Welfare

  • Risk assessment and controls, policy & procedures, inspections, COSHH, safety culture, signage, incident reporting.

Information Governance & Data Security

  • Confidentiality & consent, Caldicott principles, data protection & FOI, records management (manual & electronic), threats including social engineering, safe social media and email use.

Prevent (Radicalisation)

  • Terrorism & extremism, CONTEST strategy, recognising risk, reporting (Notice–Check–Share), Channel process.

Day 2: Virtual Corporate Induction (Online)

A live, interactive introduction to who we are and how we work:

  • Welcome & Values: Executive team overview, our culture and expectations (sickness, payroll, social media, holidays, logging care calls, F2F training), Employee Assistance Programme, Staff Handbook.
  • Systems Walk-through: OT, Thrive, and MLC (how to access and use them).
  • Lone Working & Personal Safety
  • Personal Resilience
  • Professional Boundaries
  • Documentation & Record Keeping
  • Person-Centred Care
  • Food Hygiene
  • Nutrition & Health

After Days 1 and 2: Mandatory eLearning

To finalise compliance, complete the following short modules:

  • Bullying & Sexual Harassment
  • Medication Awareness 
  • Oral Health
  • BLS & First Aid 
  • Sepsis
  • The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training – Level 1
